Genocide is defined as the systematic extermination of a racial, ethnic, religious, or national group by government. Democide was defined by Professor R.J. Rummel as the political killing of people by their own government. The terms though are related by infamy and cruelty, and at times are difficult to differentiate. The Nazis, for example, conducted genocide against the Jews (who had lost their German citizenship), as well as democide against their own disabled German citizens (“useless eaters”) via the Nazi euthanasia programs before the war.

Yes, the people were identified, disarmed, demonized, corralled, and then exterminated. Yes, the Nazis carried out genocide efficiently, but the Soviet communists improved democide by working prisoners to death in the gulag until they dropped from starvation and exhaustion. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn described the methodology perfectly in his masterpiece, The Gulag Archipelago. But where am I going with this?

Enter President Barack Obama, who has joined his friend, Pope Francis, and the European Parliament in the latter’s yearly condemnation of the Armenian genocide by the Turks. As the proverb says, “of the fallen trunk, all make kindling.” For the pope, it may be his duty: The Turks did deport or massacre 1.5 million Armenians, not in recent years, but during World War I, when the Turks feared that the Christian minority might assist the Russian enemy. The Turks say it was war and as such both Turks and Armenians died.

AtaturkModern Turkey straddling East and West has been a secular nation thanks to the legacy of its founding father, Atatürk (photo, right); a staunch Western ally during the cold war; and a member of NATO. Neither the European Union leaders nor Obama appear to understand the importance of Turkey in the age of Islamic fundamentalism and the fact the Turkish government is under tremendous religious pressure to go the way of Iraq and Iran.

Is Obama trying to give Turkey a push, just as another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter, did with Iran in 1979, when America’s pivotal friend in the Middle East, the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown and a militant Islamic Republic was created with 60 American hostages taken?

Question: Why is it that the Democrat administrations attack our friends and reward our enemies?

Question: Why hasn’t Obama defended Christians, persecuted and exterminated in foreign lands, not in the past but today, for example, Christians in China, Sudan, Egypt (Coptic Christians), and in many other communist or Arab nations?

Question: Why not focus on those regimes that are not only unfriendly to the U.S., but also have worse human right records?

Here is a brief list[1,2] of other past and present offenders who Obama could have rightly condemned:

·      Cambodia (1975-1979): 2 million “class enemies” and “city people” by the communist Khmer Rouge.

·      Ethiopia (1974-1985): 750,000 minorities and political class enemies exterminated by the brutal Derg communists of Mengistu Haile Mariam.

·      North Korea (1945-present ): 2 million plus, democide by government, executions, State created famines.

·      Sudan (1983-present): 2 million Nuer tribesmen, Christians, and southerners decimated by the Sudanese government forces.

·      China (1949-present) 40-60 million “class enemies” religious minorities (including both Christians and Muslims), Uighurs, Tibetans exterminated by the People’s Republic of China army. This does not include genocide in occupied Tibet, where the communist Chinese government killed another 1.2 million Tibetan Buddhists.[3]

·      USSR (1945-1991): 25 million class enemies, repatriated Russians, dissidents, Crimean Tatars, Cossacks, and various minorities decimated by the Soviet Army and the KGB. This does not even include the earlier victims of Stalinism, another 15 to 20 million people.

·      Russia (1994-present): 75,000 Chechens and Ingushi killed by the Russian Army.[4]

Turkish FlagOur last remaining friendly and influential Islamic nation in the Middle East is Turkey (photo, left: Turkish flag). Why not leave her alone, as she contends with Islamic extremists, Kurds, Iranians, even communists, not to mention a restive population, and select a dictatorship still in business from the above list? It has been said that Turkey should “come to terms with its past,” but has Russia or China?

And what about communist Cuba and her reigning dictator, Raúl Castro? At least 40,000 Cubans have died as a result of the communist democide; Christians are not free to worship; and 2 million Cubans live in exile. Instead in order to resume relations, the U.S. has given away the store, for which Raúl Castro has given nothing in exchange, except to call Obama “an honest man!”

Obama has said nothing about the crimes of the Cuban communist government, which since 1959 has exterminated or caused the death of at least 45,000 Cubans accused of being “counter-revolutionaries” or attempting to flee the nightmare of the workers paradise.[2,5] And the Cuban dissidents are still persecuted. In return, Americans will be subsidizing trade and loans that the Cuban government will not pay back, and the U.S. taxpayers will be left to foot the bill, as has happened to other nations trading with Cuba.[6]

For Turkey then, with a friend like Obama’s America, who needs enemies?

Death by Government

Among all the democide estimates appearing on Death by Government by Professor R. J. Rummel, some have been revised upward. Upgrades for Mao's famine, 1958-1962, wen from zero to 38,000,000. And thus the overall democide change for the PRC (1928-1987) went from 38,702,000 to 76,702,000.

Professor Rummel has changed his estimate and the new World total: Old total 1900-1999 = 174,000,000. New World total = 174,000,000 + 38,000,000 (new for China) + 50,000 (new for Colonies) = 262,000,000.

Prof. Rummel writes, "Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5', then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century." https://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/NOTE5.HTM

IS terrorism in Turkey, what is Erdogan to do?

Turkey nightclub attack: IS says it carried out shooting:

"So-called Islamic State says it was behind the new year attack on a Turkish nightclub that killed 39 people. The group said in a statement it was carried out by "a heroic soldier."

"At least 600 revellers were celebrating in the early hours of Sunday at Istanbul's Reina nightclub when the gunman began firing indiscriminately, discharging some 180 bullets.
The gunman is still at large and a manhunt is under way. Police say they have made eight arrests so far. IS has been blamed for recent attacks in Turkey, which is taking military action against the group in neighbouring Syria." BBC January 2, 2016
So what is Prime Minister Erdogan to do —protect the human rights of theses terrorists or hunt them down like the terrorists they are?--- MAF

Short sighted, inept EU disdains Turkey!

In a recent article, “Is Turkey Lost to the West?” Pat Buchanan laments the likely possibility that Turkey has been lost to the West. Buchanan writes, “Not long ago, a democratizing Turkey, with the second-largest army in NATO, appeared on track to join the European Union. That’s not likely now, or perhaps ever.”

Key to navigation in the Black and the Mediterranean Seas and seat of the historic and strategic Constantinople (Istanbul), straddling Europe and Asia at the Golden horn, Turkey is essential to the Western alliance with the “second-largest army in NATO." Indeed turkey remained a staunch and most "reliable ally of the U.S. during the cold war.” Yet, the incompetence and bungling of European politicians may cause the lost of Turkey to the West. It is not only incompetence and lack of historic insight, but the supreme smugness is also reflective of the political arrogance of the decadent, globalist, socialist leaders of the EU.

Turkey unstable and assailed on all fronts with its leader, Tayip Erdogan, under intense religious (Islamist) and political pressure— i.e., radical Islam pulling on one side and the secular, arrogant EU pushing in the opposite direction is causing that formerly secular state to fall into the full arms of radical Islam. Turkey and Russia historic enemies have had to unite in hostility to the West because of the EU’s intransigence, arrogance & self-righteousness.

That Marine Le Pen has also joined the cry against Turkey is surprising, as she is not only anti-EU but also nationalistic and pro-Russia; and Turkey and Russia, historic traditional enemies, have joined to confront the EU. Moroever, f pushed to the limit, turkey could open the flood gates of Islamic immigrants to Europe that is helpless and without the political or military will to stop it.

Let us hope that if Turkey is lost to the EU, that it is not lost to the Anglo-American alliance. Hopefully Theresa May in the UK and Trump in the US. appear to understand what is at stake and will salvage the situation for the West. We can not lose Turkey, as we did Iran under Jimmy Carter and almost lost Egypt under Obama — to the benefit of the Shia extremists of Iran and Sunni militants of ISIS!

British Sniper takes out ISIS executioner!

"Sniper takes out ISIS executioner from a mile away

"A sharpshooter killed a top ISIS executioner and three other jihadists with a single bullet from nearly a mile away -- just seconds before the fiend was set to burn 12 hostages alive with a flamethrower, according to a new report.

"The British Special Air Service marksman turned one of the most hated terrorists in Syria into a fireball by using a Barett .50-caliber rifle to strike a fuel tank affixed to the jihadi’s back, the UK’s Daily Star reported Sunday.
The pack exploded, killing the sadistic terrorist and three of his flunkies, who were supposed to film the execution, last month, the paper said.

"The ISIS butcher -- who reportedly delighted in burning hostages alive -- had been on a US “kill list” for several months, sources told the paper, which did not identify the sniper or the executioner..."

BBC: Inquiry —Putin ordered Litvinenko killed

Breaking News by the BBC, July 31, 2015:

Russian President Vladimir Putin "personally ordered" the killing of Alexander Litvinenko, the inquiry into the former spy's death has heard.

Ben Emmerson QC, for Mr Litvinenko's family, said in his closing statement that Russian state responsibility had been proven "beyond reasonable doubt."Mr Litvinenko's widow Marina said she believed her husband's "murderers and their paymasters" had "been unmasked." But the Kremlin told the BBC it did not trust the inquiry.

Dissident Mr Litvinenko, 43, drank tea containing a fatal dose of radioactive polonium during a meeting with suspects Dmitry Kovtun and Andrei Lugovoi in London in 2006.
The Kremlin wanted Mr Litvinenko dead and provided the poison used to kill him, Mr Emmerson alleged. Scientific evidence proves Mr Kovtun and Mr Lugovoi killed the former spy, he added.

Mr Emmerson told the inquiry Mr Putin was an "increasingly isolated tinpot despot" and a "morally deranged authoritarian." He said the Russian president and his allies are "directly implicated in organised crime." Mr Putin's "personal cabal" are "willing to murder those who stand in their way"...

Interested readers are referred to the book Death of a Dissident — The Poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko and the Return of the KGB by Alex Goldfarb with Marina Litvinenko (2007). The former Russian intelligence officer Alexander 'Sasha' Litvinenko in November 2006 — was poisoned by the rare radioactive element polonium, and a formal Inquiry has been in progress in Britain where Litvinenko was assassinated. In my review of the book, I wrote:

"A few weeks after the radioactive poisoning, the athletic 43-year-old lay gaunt, bald, and dying in a hospital, the victim of a 'tiny nuclear bomb.' Suspicions swirled around Russia's FSB, the successor to the KGB, and the Putin regime. Traces of polonium radiation were found in Germany and on certain airplanes, suggesting a travel route from Russia for the carriers of the fatal poison. But what really happened? What did Litvinenko know? And why was he killed?....His closest friend, Alex Goldfarb, and his widow, Marina, are the only two people who can tell it all, from firsthand knowledge, with dramatic scenes from Moscow to London to Washington. Death of a Dissident reads like a political thriller, yet its story is more fantastic and frightening than any novel."

Good Book — Small Example of Communist Remnant!

Death of a Dissident — The Poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko and the Return of the KGB by Alex Goldfarb with Marina Litvinenko (2007) is an excellent book and one establishing the extent to which the former KGB officer Putin will go to silence his critics. For those of us brought under the shadow of the Sword and the Shield and the horrible atrocities of the USSR, the means and the manner of Litvinenko’s death will be of interest. The human side of the murder is most captivating. The reader follows weeks of Litvinenko’s horrible suffering, the wife’s emotional trauma, the searches for cause and culprits, and the powerlessness of British to punish the guilty.

It has been several years since I have read this book, yet it sits in my library, and I know I will pick it up again. For those unfamiliar with the murderous miasma that communism still exudes, the book can be an eye opener. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh and other Communist dictators have given the world such a horror story that Hollywood, liberal reporters, and US President Obama ignores, yet we remember. 100 million dead, 5 million intentionally starved in Ukraine, children ordered to snitch on parents, Stasi files kept on approximately 18% of East Germans, no freedom of movement, where a citizen could be declared not sane due to political beliefs and shipped off to slave camps like the infamous Kolyma, and where students beat their teachers after encouragement from Mao’s Red Guard.

The horror of communism must not be forgotten. Despite the dissolution of communism in USSR, the damage of the infection remains. This book details a parcel of the horror and the unacknowledged guilt of communism. A few interesting facts on Polonium I found are listed below. Oleg Gordievsky stated: “"Polonium is a perfect poison. It kills absolutely, without hesitation. And if you use it, you use it with 100 percent certainty.” Extremely Lethal. Put it in a drink, ingest it, and the alpha radiation cannot penetrate the dense tissue to escape. One will die a slow terrible death, which is obviously what Putin intended. According to Gordievsky, one of the assassins, Lugovoi, had to be hospitalized for up to two weeks after using the polonium.

Difficult to Detect. Polonium 210 is not easily identified, unless medical technicians are looking for it. Intentional poisonings are still quite rare, so it is likewise uncommon for doctors to look in this direction. Intentional radiation poisoning would be rarer still. Easy to Conceal and Transport. “Unlike most common radiation sources, polonium-210 does not set off standard radiation detectors because it emits only alpha particles that do not penetrate even a sheet of paper” (Recknagel). Moreover, it can be in either powder or liquid form and carried in a small bottle. Problems: it can be traced. Once police knew of the weapon used here, they were able to follow the trail polonium left. Worse still for the guilty is that Russia is the producer of nearly all of the 100 grams made annually.

Putin’s History of Murdering his Critics. Some of Putin’s victims are political opponent Boris Nemtsov, journalist and author Anna Politkovskaya, lawyer investigating million dollar tax fraud, and human rights activist Natalia Estemirova. The list of victims is quite numerous. Putin has murdered abroad in Chechnya, and likely sought to send this message to his political opponents abroad that he could silence them with the murder of Litvinenko.

KGB has Developed and Used Poison. The KGB is widely suspected of involvement with the ricin umbrella used in assassinating Markov in Bulgaria in 1978 by their Bulgarian counterparts. Markov worked for BBC and was very critical of communist life. Yuri Shchekochikhin, a journalist and member of the Duma who opposed Putin died of a “mysterious illness” in July 2003.

MAF replies: Excellent post, Koba, with plenty of information. You must have been as fascinated by the case as I was. It is a fact with Putin: Once you begin to like the guy for some very good things he has done for his country, he acts contrariwise, as in his invasion of Georgia and the Ukraine (which I call Tsarism), and we find troubling information, such as his disregard for personal liberty and the tenets of a free society. These transgressions make us keep our distance. I think the Russian authoritarian past haunts him! I think he is beginning to realize that he cannot continue to act like an old KGB thug, and IMO I think he is doing better; but his annexation of the Crimea still bothers me. Trump, despite media ridicule, if anyone, will be the best man as President to deal with Putin cordially or toughly, if the need arises.
